What ties ties, ties 는 국적, 배경, 나이, 성정체성 등이 서로 다른 다섯명의 미술작가가 함께 만든 첫번째 책이다. 

스코티시 페인터 Amy Winstanley(b.1983, 스코틀랜드)의 인식과 관점에 대해 질문하는 소설 Doubt, 네덜란드에서 활동하는 Mariah Blue(b.1977, 미국)가 인공지능 기계학습과 함께 쓴 시 Call Us by Our Names, 손윤원(b.1990, 대한민국)의 서울과 암스테르담을 오가며 환대에 대한 관심으로 신혼 집과 유령개미를 관찰하며 쓴 초대 에세이 Housewarming, Dear Ghost Ants, 스코티시 커디쉬 작가 Lana Murdochy(b.1995, 스코틀랜드)의 우정과 상상에 관한 자전적 소설 Tadpoles, 조각가 Kathrin Graf(b.1984, 독일)의 감각과 표면에 대한 실험 에세이 Moving Matter 로 묶여(ties)있다. 

저자소개

Amy, Kathrin, Lana, Mariah, Younwon 은 2017 년부터 2019 년까지 암스테르담의 Sandberg Institute 에서 순수미술을 전공했다. 마스터를 마친 뒤 각자 0(글래스고/에딘버그), +1(암스테르담/본), +9(서울) 등 3 개의 시간대에 걸쳐 각기 다른 나라에 살고 있으며, 물리적인 거리는 12,959.12km 이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 그들은 보름에 한번씩 비디오 통화를 통해 서로의 일상, 경험, 생각 그리고 예술을 공유하고 감각한다.

About Book What ties ties, ties is a book created by five artists of different nationalities, backgrounds, ages, and gender identity. This book is tied by ‘Doubt’, a short story about questioning perceptions of the world by Scottish painter Amy Winstanley(b.1983), ’Call Us by Our Names’, poems that are collaboration between Mariah Blue(b.1977) and machine learning algorithm, ’Housewarming, Dear Ghost Ants’, an invitation essay about house, creature, and future scenery by Korean artist Younwon Sohn(b.1990), ‘Tadpoles’, a short coming of age story exploring friendship and imagination of young women by Scottish-Kurdish artist Lana Murdochy(b.1995), and ‘Moving Matter’, an essay about exploring the relationship between feelings and surfaces by German sculptor Kathrin Graf(b.1984). 

About Authors Amy, Kathrin, Lana, Mariah and Younwon studied together at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam from 2017–2019. Since completing their Masters, they are all living in different countries, in 3 different time zones: 0 (Glasgow/Edinbugh), +1 (Amsterdam/Bonn), +9 (Seoul), and with a physical distance of 12,959.12km between them. Nevertheless they are meeting each other every second week through video calls—to continue their dialogue about daily life experiences, art practices and thinking.
